EQUALITY 4 MEN

The Global Campaign for Men and Boys

Is the porn industry exploiting and harming boys and young men….?

Porn-On-The-Brain

Is online porn affecting boys’ brains? What happened when a former Loaded Magazine editor took some young men to the lab to get their heads checked out for a new Channel 4 documentary?

Journalist and father, Martin Daubney,  investigated how teenagers’ brains are being affected by pornography as part of Channel 4’s Campaign For Real Sex series.

Writing about the  Porn on the Brain documentary, Daubney says that he was angered and moved to tears by stories of boys whose lives have been “totally taken over by porn”.

“I feel as if an entire generation’s sexuality has been hijacked by grotesque online porn,”  who says young men are losing jobs and relationships, failing exams and getting into serious debt through using porn.

Daubeney, who was Loaded Magazine editor from 2003-2010, says he has agonised that the magazine “may have switched a generation onto more explicit online porn”.

The documentary suggests that porn can be addictive, particularly for teenage boys who are twice as likely as girls to watch porn. Teenagers can be especially vulnerable to addiction because the pre-frontal cortex that “regulate our urges” isn’t fully developed until our mid-20s.

With boys as young as 10 accessing online porn, the industry is “sexually traumatising an entire generation of boys” claims one contributor to the documentary.

As the father of a 4 year old son, Daubeney concludes that modern dads need to become the first generation to talk to learn to talk to our children about pornography.
